Energy and Mobility

Electromobility presents an opportunity that extends beyond the transport and energy sectors. It encompasses the opportunity to transform growth strategies towards a clean economy and a carbon-neutral future. Excessive energy consumption, reduced mobility, and air pollution are problems that persist across Mexico's major urban centers. The dependency on cars is a major contributor to this problem. Despite efforts made in places like Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey to move away from cars, problems related to mobility and air pollution are worsening.

Our initial work focuses on innovative, sustainable and inclusive mobility systems in the City of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. As one of the primary centers of Mexico’s globally competitive automotive sector and an industrial powerhouse, Monterrey needs its own cleaner transport options. MCE2050 is mobilizing the applied research capabilities of Stanford and local research institutions in collaboration with the industrial sector in Monterrey to support realignment of local design and manufacturing capacities towards integation of an electric mobility supply chain in North America. MCE205 is also supporting living labs at local university districs and the launching of pilot smart mobility, zero-emissions transport systems in the State of Nuevo Leon.
