Smarter Communities & Clean Innovation Hubs

Main content start

MCE2050 is focused on piloting clean innovation hubs in the U.S. - Mexico border region and supporting the integration of the emerging regional supply chains needed for a highly competitive, new clean economy in North America. Ultimately, MCE2050 aims to support low-carbon development and investment in cleaner, smarter, more just, inclusive, and innovative communities in our hemisphere.

Cali-Baja Region

The Cali-Baja region is formed by San Diego County, Imperial County and Baja California's Tijuana, Ensenada and Mexicali, and has become one of the fastest growing regions in the world. Tijuana, BC is the rapidly evolving urban core of this region. This emerging bi-national innovation hub is an example of cooperation and shared resource management for the US-Mexico border in the context of growing climate challenges. Technological, policy, business and social innovation solutions require regional, integrated and holistic approaches to guiding this metropolitan region towards smarter, low-carbon sustainability to eventually serve as a model bi-national clean innovation hub in the U.S.-Mexico border region.

Monterrey, Nuevo León

The State of Nuevo Leon has rapidly grown over the last several decades with limited growth planning, which has caused major air pollution and congestion issues in the city center of its capitol city Monterrey.  MCE2050 facilitates multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary collaborations focused on the development of sustainable transport systems and alternative energy systems to improve the quality of life of the local community and the U.S.-Mexico border region in general.
